DHARA
Partner organization DHARA (Development of Health and Agriculture Rehabilitation Advancement) has been working since 2001 in Jessore, a medium-sized city in southwest Bangladesh with approximately 200,000 inhabitants. The city has attracted many people who no longer saw the opportunity to make ends meet in the surrounding countryside. DHARA is a female-headed organization, led by Lipika Das Gupta. DHARA's work focuses on street children, women, and families living in the slums on the outskirts of the city. The organization wants to take children who are victims of criminal activities and sexual abuse out of their isolation and offer them a future in society. Like the other partners of SAKO, DHARA has education and health care programs. In addition, DHARA has a number of social enterprises that offer employment on the one hand and provide income to the organization on the other.
